三輪山平等寺の日曜坐禅会は1971(昭和46)年から一度も欠かさず続いています。
ー仏々祖々、皆本は凡夫なりー 示二云ク、仏々祖々、皆本は凡夫なり。凡夫の時は必ず悪業もあり、悪心もあり。鈍もあり、癡もあり。然レども皆改めて知識に従ひ、教行に依りしかば、皆仏祖と成りしなり。今の人も然るべし。我が身おろかなれば、鈍なればと卑下する事なかれ。今生に発心せずんば何の時をか待つべき。好むには必ず得べきなり。〔口語訳〕
教えて言われた。どの仏もどの祖師も、皆もとは凡夫であった。そして凡夫の時には必ず悪い行ないもあり、悪い心もあった。にぶくもあり、ばかでもあった。しかし皆それを改めて、指導者に従い、仏の教えと仏の行ないとによって修行したので、みな仏となり祖となったのである。現今の人もそうでなくてはならない。自分はばかだから、鈍いからといって卑下してはならない。この世で発心しなければ、どんな時を待って発心することがあろう。他に心を移さず行じていると、必ず道を得ることができるのである。

Dogen
The Sunday Zazen Gathering at Miwa-san Byodo-ji Temple has continued without
a single interruption since its inception in 1971 (Showa 46).
— Every Buddha and Patriarch Was Once an Ordinary Human —
Zen Master Dogen taught in the Shobogenzo Zuimonki:"Every Buddha and
every ancestral master was originally just an ordinary human being. When
they were ordinary, they inevitably did bad things, had bad thoughts, were
dull-witted, and made foolish mistakes. However, they all changed their
ways, followed true spiritual teachers, and practiced according to the
Buddha’s teachings. By doing so, they all became Buddhas and ancestors
themselves.People of today must realize that the same applies to them.
Do not look down on yourself, thinking, 'I am too foolish,' or 'I am too
slow.' If you do not awaken your aspiration for the Way in this current
lifetime, what other time are you waiting for? If you practice wholeheartedly
without letting your mind wander, you will surely attain the Way."(Translated
